What we check on every quote
- Thickness. How thick is the driveway, and how thick is the apron at the street? Cities usually want the apron at 6 inches.
- Concrete strength. What PSI, and is it plant ready-mix?
- Steel. Rebar or wire mesh, what spacing, and does it say the steel sits on chairs? Steel lying on the dirt does almost nothing (here's why).
- Base. Is base prep and compaction written in, or is the slab going on raked dirt?
- Joints and tie-ins. Control joints, expansion joints, and dowels into the garage and the street.
- What's left out. Tear-out and haul-off, the apron, the permit, pump access, cleanup.
- Money and paperwork. How much is due up front, when the rest is due, and whether the warranty is in writing.
Why we do this
Most driveway problems start with things nobody can see after the pour: thin concrete, steel in the dirt, a soft base, no joints. Two quotes that look $2,000 apart are often describing two very different slabs. We'd rather you compare the same job side by side, whoever you hire. If you'd like our number too, start an estimate here or try the cost calculator.
Questions people ask
Is this really free?
Yes. Send a quote, we'll read it and text or email you what we see. There's no obligation and no pressure to switch to us.
Will you share my quote with anyone?
No. Your quote stays with us. We don't contact the other contractor and we don't publish anything from it.
What do you look for?
Thickness of the driveway and the apron, concrete strength, what steel is used and whether it's on chairs, base prep, joints, tear-out and haul-off, the permit, the payment schedule and the warranty. If something important isn't written down, we'll tell you what to ask.
How fast will I hear back?
Usually within one business day.
